Bakery
Direct was originally founded in 1995 as a baked goods delivery
company by current president Adhimu Ali Baucum. As a young
college student, Baucum learned the pie business while working
at a wholesale bean pie bakery under his mentor. After working
for 5 years, the bakery fell on hard times and was forced
to close its doors. Despite what seemed to be a dim future,
Baucum acquired some of the equipment and decided to give
the pie business a try.
Starting
from scratch, he worked 14 hour days, baking out of his
home and two other locations. After several years of perseverance,
the company moved into its current South Capitol St. location.
Our signature pie, the bean custard pie has since been sold
wholesale to coffee shops, restaurants, convenience stores,
and food distributors across the entire East Coast. The
Bakery Direct Deli has been featured both regionally and
nationally as a premier destination for great pies, which
can now be shipped directly to you.
This
Washington, D.C.-based business has evolved from its early
days of serving just bean pies to its current Bakery Deli
model serving, in addition to bean pies: Sweet Potato Pies;
Apple Crumb Pies, Fruit Bean Pies, hand-dipped Ice Cream;
and a lunch menu of made-to-order hot and cold sandwiches,
wraps, salads, and soups. Our fresh, baked goods include:
six kinds of muffins, brownies, four kinds of cookies, cheesecakes,
and more. Beverages include fresh coffee, fruit juices,
fruit smoothies, and soft drinks.
